On 17-18 June 2026, a training session for managers of long-term care institutions from the Pomeranian and Warmian-Masurian regions was held at the Gwiazda Morza Resort & SPA in Władysławowo. The event was organized by Farmpol Sp. z o.o. and Toruńskie Zakłady Materiałów Opatrunkowych S.A. (TZMO).
The training aimed to strengthen the competencies of management staff in preventing aggressive situations, responding appropriately to aggressive behaviour displayed by care recipients and their family members, and ensuring the safety of employees working in long- term care facilities.
The first day began with participant registration followed by a networking lunch, providing an opportunity for representatives of various institutions to establish new contacts and exchange professional experiences. The training sessions were then led by experts specialising in crisis management and effective communication with patients and their families.
The programme covered a wide range of topics, including:
- the most common causes of aggressive behaviour among older adults and long-term care patients;
- the impact of neurological disorders, dementia and cognitive impairment on patient behaviour;
- effective de-escalation and communication techniques;
- recognising early warning signs of potential aggression;
- procedures for responding to situations that threaten the safety of staff and residents;
- legal aspects of employee protection and incident reporting;
- the importance of cooperation with patients’ families and maintaining effective communication in conflict situations.
An important part of the training consisted of practical exercises and case study discussions based on real-life situations presented by participants. The workshop sessions encouraged the exchange of best practices and explored various approaches to managing challenging situations encountered in everyday professional practice.
The first day concluded with a formal dinner, offering participants an opportunity to continue discussions and strengthen professional relationships in a more informal setting.
The second day focused on summarising the key topics covered during the training and included an interactive question-and-answer session. Participants also had the opportunity to consult individually with the speakers and discuss challenges they face in their daily work. The event concluded with a summary of the knowledge gained and recommendations aimed at improving staff safety and enhancing the quality of care provided to patients.
The training provided a valuable platform for expanding professional knowledge and exchanging experiences among representatives of long-term care institutions. The practical solutions and recommendations presented during the event are expected to contribute to more effective crisis management and to fostering safer working environments for both healthcare professionals and care recipients.
The event was also attended by Katarzyna Mitkiewicz and Andrzej Kowalewski, representing the Polish-Ukrainian Investment & Trade Office (PUBIH). Their participation provided an opportunity to establish new professional contacts with representatives of the long-term care sector, exchange experiences on the challenges faced by healthcare and care institutions, and discuss potential areas of cooperation in the development of innovative solutions for the healthcare and long-term care sectors.
